First Time Racers (faqs)
What race am I eligible for?
If it your first time racing, then the The “c” race is where you will start. Registration opens at 8 a.m. and closes at 8:30 so get there early.
If you are a cat 4 you can do the “b” or the “a” race
If you are of a higher level then you are not on the bike racing 101 FAQ section.
Do I need a racing license?
Yes, but they’re easy to get your paws on. You can fill out a form at the event and get a One Day USA Cycling (USAC) license for $10 or if you are really feeling it you can sign up for an Annual License for 60 bones.
Is my annual license good at any racing event?
Yes, it’s good at any USAC sanctioned event.
How do I upgrade to a higher category?
The categories are based on racing experience and finishing order. To upgrade from a 5 to a 4 all you need is experience racing (20 finishes in sanctioned events). If you get top ten finishes then you upgrade even faster. If you get top 3-5 finishes the magic happens even faster as each placing above 3rd is allotted a point number. The more points you get in a year the faster you move up a category. See more on the USAC website go to PDF and check out pages 17-23 for licensing and upgrading information.
